Ron Pessolano, bio statement "In 1988 - after having spent the previous fourteen years exploring various aspects of woodworking - I was given a lathe. I began making very simple candle holders, weed pots and bowls, all of which helped me gain proficiency for what was to come. Five or so years into the work, I became aware of the "deep, hollow" vases that were being created by the masters of the profession. Being someone who's always intrigued by a challenge, I decided to give them a shot. Hollow turning quickly became the most difficult, frustrating and consequently satisfying work I've ever done. About mid 1996, I was looking for a way to differentiate my hollow vases from those being made by other turners. I brought myself back about twenty years to a type of piercing work I was doing at that time, and decided to incorporate the technique with the hollow forms and see what would happen. After a great deal of trial and error, I met with success. In my designs, I strive for a pleasing, organic look, though I've been told by many that any number of weird and wonderful things can be found." All of Pessolano's works are the result of years of experimentation, trial and error and all are turned and hollowed using tools that are mostly of his own making. Contact Michael McDunn Gallery.
