Griz Hockwalt Blacksmith bio

Basically self-taught, but over the past thirty-plus years, Hockwalt has worked with and learned from some of the most famous and infamous blacksmiths in the country. His work includes everything from historic reproductions to fine furniture. Hockwalt uses traditional blacksmithing techniques to create contemporary works of art. Knives are all hand-forged using everything from motorcycle chain and chainsaw chain to steel cable. Hockwalt also creates traditional Damascus steel knives using alternating layers of hardening and no-hardening steels folded and forge-welded to as many as 500 layers in a blade.
