Don Clarke, bio statement A native of Barnesboro, Pennsylvania, I earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown Campus. Trained as an engineer, I am a self-taught woodworker. I initially approached woodworking out of necessity in order to furnish my first home. Learning largely through self study over the past 30 years, my style has evolved through experimentation and refinement. In my pieces, I attempt to evoke the fluent, flowing lines of living timber. My work is influenced by Art Deco and Scandinavian design. The extensive use of curved lines combined with highly figured woods reinforces the visual motion of my work. I currently display in galleries in both North and South Carolina. I am a long term member of both the Greenville Woodworkers Guild and the Pendleton District Woodworkers where I also teach courses as varied as tool sharpening to marquetry and inlay. I have displayed work at numerous juried shows. One of my desks was featured Woodcraft magazine. Contact Michael McDunn Gallery. If you have any questions, please let us know.
